A verdict of accidental death has been recorded at the inquest of a man who died less than 24 hours after being released from prison.
The body of 27-year-old Jay Michael Radcliffe was found in the lounge of his mother's flat on Mona Street in Douglas, by his cousin Ben Geraghty, on the morning of January 18 this year.
The pair had spent the previous evening at the flat, drinking to celebrate Jay's release from prison, and both slept in the room that night.
The inquest heard Jay had a long history of depression, mental health problems and bouts of psychosis.
He had been a heavy user of alcohol and illegal drugs, but had been looking to turn his life around upon his release.
On his release from prison on January 17, Jay was provided with three days-worth of the three types of prescription medication he was on.
It was to see him through until an appointment with GP on Monday, and he was not thought likely to misuse them.
It's thought a combination of the alcohol he consumed and some of the medication could have caused heart arrhythmia and loss of consciousness, meaning he wouldn't wake up when he began to be sick.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, Coroner of Inquests John Needham passed on his condolences to the family, some of whom were in attendance.
Speaking to Manx Radio afterwards, Jay's mother, Janet Callister, described her son as a very kind young man.
