The Isle of Man Badminton U15 Junior Tournament sponsored by Kirby Estates Ltd took place on Saturday 15th November. Reigning singles champion Matthew Colley (Marown) successfully defended his title after ultimately meeting his doubles partner Alexander Hewlett (St Ninians) in the final. Some strong play from Sam Callow (Fencibles), Tobey Cheng (Fencibles) and Alexander Buck (Vikings) along the way.
In the Girls singles event, Georgia Foxton (Vikings) was impressive from the off leading to a final position against Megan Wade (St Ninians) who had played a strong game to secure the other final spot. Both girls had to take semi-finals to 3 games apiece with Ana Dawson (Peel) and Caiomhe O’Mahony (Fencibles) respectively with Georgia completing the event with a victory.
Boys Doubles regular partners Matthew Colley/Alexander Hewlett had a title to defend which they did do so however runners-up Alexander Buck & Tobey Cheng pushed their opponents hard in the first game and Colley/Hewlett had to fight back to secure the trophy.
Singles winner Georgia Foxton and partner Caiomhe O’Mahony met some strong opposition along their path to victory in the girls doubles. Semi-finalists Laura Parkinson/Leah Masson and Chloe Teare/Ana Dawson didn’t provide easy passage for their opponents with both matches proving the competitive spirit was very much alive. Megan Wade/Milly Avery reached the final but it was Foxton/O’Mahony who were victorious.
Some familiar names in the mixed doubles with a final line up of Alexander Buck/Georgia Foxton versus Alexander Hewlett/Caiomhe O’Mahony. Buck/Foxton confidently took the first game leaving Hewlett/O’Mahony to play catch up if they were to take it to 3 games. It proved too much and Buck/Foxton finished the day with a win.
