A Manx company’s been set up to build a gas pipeline 1,100 miles long across Asia.
The TAPI Pipeline Company will build, own and operate the planned pipeline which will run across Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. It will export an estimated 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan over 30 years, providing a key new source of fuel for the region.
Island law firm Cains acted for Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the formation of the pipeline company, after ADB was appointed transaction advisor for the TAPI project.
Manila-based ADB supports projects designed to generate economic growth and regional integration.
The pipeline is co-owned by the state gas companies of all four countries as well as a private Indian company and should be completed by 2017.
Recognising Cains' involvement, Chief Minister Allan Bell said he was ".. delighted the Isle of Man has been able to play a supporting role in a project which has major geopolitical significance."
