Southern Nomads beat off the challenge of Douglas B in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield on Saturday, winning 21-18 to take top spot in the standings.

Douglas led 13-7 at half-time after tries from Ben Webb and Tom Anderson, plus a penalty from Adam Howarth, cancelled out Tom Duggan’s try for Nomads which was converted by Adam Boyd.

In the second half, Anderson added his second try but scores from Tom Bateson and Steve McHugh, plus two Dan Bridle conversions, were enough to give Nomads a fine victory.

At King William’s College, Western Vikings beat Emerging Nomads 36-14 and moved into fourth place in the standings.

Kevin Mellor was the star of the show with a four try haul.

There were also tries from Liam Mulligan and Jamie Everitt with three conversions by Ryan Burke.

Nomads’ scores came courtesy of tries from Sean Harrison and Dion Meechan, plus two conversions from Patrick O’Brien.
