Commission Modifies Wi-Manx’s Licence

by isleofman.com 6th November 2014
The Communications Commission has modified the telecommunications licence held by Wi-Manx Limited.

Wi-Manx previously held an ISP (Internet Service Provider) licence, which allowed Wi-Manx to offer internet and internet related services. The modification results in Wi-Manx having what is known as a Full Operator licence, allowing Wi-Manx to offer voice services and a wider range of business services. This makes Wi-Manx the third licensed Full Operator on the Island, alongside Manx Telecom and Sure.

Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Juan Watterson MHK said:

“The addition of a third Full Operator will increase competition and is expected to increase the choice of telecommunications services available to consumers and businesses on the Island. This supports Government’s key aim of growing the economy.”

The licence modification follows a one-month notice period during which interested parties were invited to express views on the modification. No comments were submitted. Prior to the notice period, the Commission conducted a detailed review of Wi-Manx’s application for modification, which included a business plan, financial statements and other supporting documents.
