Members of SMP Partners’ Gaming Development team will attend one of Europe’s largest industry conferences next week.
Head of Gaming Development Lorna Coniglio-Burrows and department administrator Kate Reynolds will travel to Berlin for Excellence in iGaming (EiG), which runs from 21st to 23rd October.
More than 250 operators will be represented at EiG, including many established online gaming names, making it an important event on the calendar for the industry. Lorna and Kate will join other leading Island gaming sector figures on the Isle of Man Government stand at EiG, meeting conference delegates and explaining the Island’s offering to established and start-up gaming businesses.
SMP Partners has a strong, well-established gaming team, which looks after approximately 50% of the Island's licensed gaming companies. The department has experienced rapid year-on-year growth and established its status as an industry leader and a major contributor to the Island’s success as a gaming jurisdiction .
Group Director David Hudson said: ‘It is important that the Isle of Man, as a jurisdiction, and SMP Partners as a leading name in the industry, are present at major conferences and exhibitions like EiG. They are an opportunity to discuss what the Isle of Man has to offer, as well as a chance to discuss emerging issues and developments which may have a bearing on the Island or the industry.
‘I fully expect the United Kingdom’s new licensing regime, due to come into effect next month, will be a key topic of discussion, as it requires operators transacting with UK consumers to obtain a licence from the UK Gambling Commission. There has been much debate about this legislation and concern expressed about its impact, as it includes not only businesses actually operating websites and accepting players from the UK, but also software companies that supply to those operators, which will be required to obtain a UK software licence.
‘Through what has been an uncertain period, as the introduction date for the legislation approached and was then delayed by a judicial review which ultimately failed, SMP Partners has ensured the best interests of its clients have been served, preparing and filing licence applications under the continuation regime of this law so operators could continue their business with confidence. In fact, we handled more than 6% of the total international applications filed by the September deadline.
‘With the detailed knowledge of this legislation SMP Partners has developed and particularly the interplay between the UK and other licensing jurisdictions, Lorna and Kate will be well-placed to properly explain what it means for the industry, and for the Isle of Man during EiG.’
