Cowin makes strides in walking challenge

Adam Cowin was the winner of Sunday’s Manx Harriers one-hour walking challenge at the NSC.
He covered 11,672 metres in one hour, closely followed by Tom Partington (11,129 metres) and Michelle Turner and Richard Wild (both 10,994 metres).
The event was aimed at encouraging novice and new walkers to have a go at seeing how far they can walk in one hour.
Sponsored by the Welbeck Hotel and Restaurant, Ray Beattie was the first novice, covering 9,480 metres, just ahead of Steve Jones (9,360) and Robert Currey (9,293).
Stephen Waddington covered 4,408 metres to finish first in the half hour walk with Isaac Quayle walking 1,600 metres in 12 minutes 25 seconds, quickest in the junior field.
