After a hugely successful pole vault and high jump open meeting at the NSC last Wednesday IMGold have pledged further support to Pole Vault and Multi Event initiatives.
Their first action was to give the Pole Vault and Multi-Event training group its golden stamp of approval by providing athletes with tracksuits and training clothes to keep them looking stylish and warm as they develop their athletic skills in the winter months, in preparation for competition in 2015.
The training group will be doing many fundraising activities in the coming months to help fund athlete and coach mentor sessions from visiting UK coaches to not only improve our athletes but to also drive coaching standards upwards ensuring local athletes can access continually improving coaching sessions.
The group is currently being supported by local UKA coaches John Whitlow and Trevor Christian with support from former UK number one indoor heptathlete Tony Pithers. Since arriving on the Island in 2012 Tony has been very passionate about getting involved in the Manx Athletics scene and offers help and advice to athletes and coaches alike. Tony said, “Having been on the Island a relatively short time I am so impressed with the standard and enthusiasm for athletics. I am amazed that such a small population punches so high above its weight in so many sports! It is fantastic to see IMGold supporting this group of very promising young athletes who all put so much effort and fun into their training sessions.”
If you would like to try pole vault then why not go along to the weekly training sessions at the NSC track every Wednesday evening at 5pm. For more details and information about training sessions contact trevor.christian@gov.im or call 688576.
