Leading funds services provider, Abacus, formed part of the expert line-up for a panel discussion during the 4th Annual Malta Fund Conference, held in St Julian’s Bay in Malta last week.
Paul Kneen, Chief Executive Officer of Abacus Financial Service Group, joined the panel of speakers to discuss the types of services that can be provided by fund administrators, the duties of Depo-lites and the reporting obligations of administrators to regulators under AIFMD.
Mr Kneen said, “Abacus is pleased to have been part of this year’s event and welcomed the opportunity to take part in the panel discussions which looked at the impact of AIFMD a year on from its initial implementation.
“The introduction of AIFMD in July 2013 brought with it a new set of rules and challenges for the funds industry. These challenges continue to change with the ongoing development and implementation of AIFMD and it remains in question as to whether it will be a positive or negative change for the funds sector.”
Abacus were also a sponsor of this year’s event which focused on ‘AIFMD - one year after’, looking at the implications on funds, managers and service providers following the introduction of one of the most controversial pieces of legislation introduced to the fund industry.
This year’s event welcomed over 150 delegates ranging from fund promoters and fund managers to accountants and custodians, to legal representatives and fund administrators. Delegates were provided with an informative agenda which covered topics such as Governance, Compliance & Risk Management, Valuation and Remuneration, Passporting and Re-domiciliation, Disclosure and Reporting Requirements, Custody and Fund Administration, and were able to take advantage of the numerous networking opportunities the event also provided.
