Students and employers gain from STEP scheme

by isleofman.com 15th September 2014
Island undergraduates who took part in this year's STEP scheme have been praised for their enterprise and innovation.
The scheme offers university students summer placements with local employers.
The young people are put into real business situations and given an opportunity to shine, by seeing a special project through from start to finish.
And this year, a record number of projects were completed.
The eight week period of paid employment allows students to put their studies into practice, see an organisation from the inside and gain valuable life skills.
The scheme is organised by the Department of Economic Development.
At its awards presentation, Olivia Rawlinson was named this year's Most Enterprising Student for her marketing project on the horse trams for Douglas Council.
Andrew Corrin, attached to Douglas Development Partnership, won the Best Presentation accolade for his project on the Douglas cycle scheme.
All 41 projects completed this summer were praised for delivering real tangible benefits to the organisation.
