Saints pushed hard by Gymns

St Mary’s are the fledgling leaders of the Canada Life Premier League but they were pushed hard by newly promoted Gymns on Saturday.
Goals from Danny Gerrard and Marc Priestnal ensured the Saints triumphed 2-1 at Tromode but Barry Hardinge’s goal kept the outcome in the balance until the end.
A goal in each half from Callum Stewart and David Quirk fired Old Boys to a 2-0 success at Corinthians, while a first half blitz at Ballacloan inspired Ramsey to a 5-1 home win over Michael.
The northerners were 4-0 up by the break.
Michael Fernandez (two), Jamie Moffatt, Chris Duggan and Matthew Skillicorn grabbed the goals with Kevin Pulman on target for the visitors.
Ayre United gave St John’s a fright at Andreas before the visitors emerged 2-1 winners, thanks to goals from John Haggerdon and Reece Oates.
Laxey ran out 5-2 home winners over Union Mills.
Matthew Renney (two), Fraser Vaughan, Ross Williamson and Nigel Beattie netted for the miners, while Matty Cain and Jamie Johnston scored for the Millers.
In JCK Division Two, Ramsey Youth Centre won the match of the day with a 2-1 triumph over Marown in the top of the table clash.
Douglas Athletic thrashed Castletown 5-0.
· A goal from Ciaran McNulty earned the Isle of Man a 1-0 success over the Republic of Ireland Amateur side in a friendly in Dublin.
