A CAD/engineering technician with Douglas Borough Council has won three awards for his course work after completing his HNC in construction and the built environment.

Stephen Halsall, 31, who has worked in the borough engineer’s department for nine years, won the Isle of Man College Most Outstanding Vocational Student – the Student of the Year award – together with the CIOB Carl Fletcher Most Outstanding Higher National Certificate Construction Student award and the Creative Design Award for Construction.

For the latter he entered and won a competition to design a yacht club for Ramsey. His submission was for a building with exceptional green credentials, powered by kinetic energy and featuring a roof garden, 150-seat restaurant/office space and ‘fitness pods’ designed as 24-hour personal gyms.

Mr Halsall was invited to the mayor’s parlour where he was congratulated by the Mayor, Councillor Stan Cain, on his achievements.
