WWI conference this weekend

by isleofman.com 12th September 2014
A hugely significant time on the Isle of Man will be remembered at a special conference this weekend.

It’s 100 years since the outbreak of World War One, when the Island was chosen by British Intelligence as the place to house German and Austrian civilians.

Considered a threat to national security, they were held here as internees.

This weekend, international historians and locals will exchange stories and explore how Island life changed significantly.

The event at the Manx Museum has been organised by curator of social history at Manx National Heritage, Matthew Richardson.Clip 1
