Market hall exhibition to open

by isleofman.com 12th September 2014

An exhibition at a new art education facility in Douglas is due to open today.

The Market Hall has recently been taken over by the Isle of Man College, to be used as a space for its art students to create and display their work.

The exhibition, called 'Fish', has also involved students from the Island's schools.

It's the first exhibition to be held in the hall since it began its new life as a creative space.

Every pupil studying art, at all 38 Department of Education and Children schools, is contributing a fish they have hand-crafted for the display.

An art project on a major scale is how organisers are describing it.

Isle of Man College Programme Manager for Art, Design and Media Helen Fox says, "Fish – catching it, selling it, processing it and eating it – has been such an enormous part of our Island life yet now the memory and evidence of its economic importance to us is all but disappearing".

Today's official opening is followed by it being open to the public tomorrow for one week, excluding Sunday.
