DLT trial hears from alleged Manx grope victim

by isleofman.com 10th September 2014

Southwark Crown Court has heard a woman came forward with allegations against former DJ Dave Lee Travis after media coverage of the Jimmy Saville scandal.

69 year old Mr Travis, of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, is accused of two counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual assault.

Yesterday, the court heard the woman – who can’t be named for legal reasons - was working at a venue on the Island in the 1980s.

She’s not a complainant in the case, and gave her evidence from behind a screen.

The woman told the jury Mr Travis put his hand between her legs as she served him drinks.

She said she came forward to police last year after seeing footage of Mr Travis walking into court.

The trial heard she was dumbfounded when he pinned her against a wall, describing him as ‘very cocky and very sure of himself'.

But she told the court she didn’t report the alleged assault at the time and her cousin eventually persuaded her to talk to detectives in the wake of claims against Jimmy Saville.

The trial continues.
