Public makes Knockaloe feelings known at meeting

by isleofman.com 10th September 2014
The environment, food and agriculture minister has vowed to take a 'step back' from plans to sell the Knockaloe farm site, and listen to other options.
Richard Ronan made the pledge at a public meeting on the issue last night.
Patrick Community Centre was full to capacity as 140 members of the public, local MHK David Anderson and Patrick Commissioners all made it known they were against it being sold.
A resolution agreed unanimously by them at the end of the meeting called for Knockaloe to remain in public ownership, for use by the community, agriculture and education.
Mr Anderson says he was reassured by what he heard from Mr Ronan: (play audio)
It was revealed a company has been set up by local residents, who want to showcase the site's history as a World War One internment camp via an exhibition centre and website.
There were also calls for a small business hub and associated attractions to be created there.Clip 1
