More Choice for Island’s Phone Customers

by isleofman.com 9th September 2014

Isle of Man phone customers will soon have a choice of providers for fixed-line call services.  Consumers will be able to choose which operators they use to make calls with, taking advantage of packages that best suit their needs. This facility, known as Carrier Pre-Selection, will be available in October.

By the end of this year, Island phone customers will also have a choice of who provides their fixed line.  This will also allow competing telecoms operators to offer bundled packages with other services – calls, broadband, mobile etc. through Wholesale Line Rental.

The Commission, together with the Island’s licensed operators, has also put in place a customer transfer process to protect consumers from mis-selling (or ‘slamming’) in retail telecoms markets.

These three developments are part of the continued opening up of the Isle of Man’s telecoms markets and they become available to consumers in the same year as 4G mobile services launched.

The Communications Commission Chairman, Juan Watterson, MHK, said:

“The Commission is committed to maintaining a regulatory environment where telecoms operators can offer consumers a range of products and services, while encouraging investment and innovation for the good of the Island’s citizens and its economy”
