Luke Lacey of Cronkbourne Cricket Club has been named as the third ‘Standard Bank Player of the Month’ for 2014. The award recognises those who have consistently played well for their clubs or had a particularly strong single performance.
Nominees are put forward by the Isle of Man Cricket Association (IOMCA) and entrants are judged by a panel which includes: Chris Till, of Standard Bank, Andy Dalrymple of IOM Newspapers and Rob Webber former Isle of Man Captain, and a member of the IOMCA Executive.
For July, Jack Rowlands, Shaun Kelly, George Burrows, Chris Nash, Bruce Wagstaff and Adam McAuley were also nominated for their performances and contributions. Chris Till, Head: Technical Banking at Standard Bank, said they were all deserving winners: ‘Luke was chosen because of his superb batting performances during the month including two innings of 96 n.o. against Peel & St Johns in the Standard Bank Premiership and Crosby in the Standard Bank Cain Cup and a 63 against Peel in Standard Bank Cain Cup, plus an average of 102.3 across all competitions.’
There will be one final award for this season, but Chris Till added that it has already been an excellent year so far, ‘For us in the judging panel it’s a delight to watch our Manx players putting in such good performances. We have established these awards to showcase just how strong the sport is in the Island at the club level, and highlight the individuals who do so well for their teams.’
