Cavendish overcomes crash to take third

Mark Cavendish had to settle for third as Germany's Marcel Kittel won a thrilling sprint finish on the streets of Liverpool in the opening stage of the
Italy's Nicola Ruffoni was second, ahead of Cavendish, who managed to contest the sprint despite crashing into a car earlier in the stage.
Defending champion Sir Bradley Wiggins, of Team Sky, finished in the peloton.
Cavendish, 29, said last week that he was not in peak condition as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery after crashing out of the Tour de France in July.
Today's stage is from Knowsley to Llandudno.Tour of Britain.
