Grenaby Estates Pony Club Centre held its first ever Pony Club Open Event yesterday (Thursday 4th). Parents and children learned about the forthcoming autumn/winter term and the achievement badges that children can work towards.
The highlight of the afternoon was a dressage demonstration by local equestrian, Carly Letch, on her horse Rihanna (said to be a bit of a diva – like her namesake). Carly is preparing for international competition and has been working with Rihanna for seven years.
It was an opportunity to meet the Grenaby Estates team and to say hello to the ponies which the children particularly enjoyed.
There was a mini treasure hunt and information to explain to parents and riders alike what is involved in the Pony Club sessions. The achievement badges cover a wide variety of topics and run alongside riding, grooming and stable management.
Grenaby Estates can teach children as young as four and Pony Club membership is open to anyone under the age of 25. It is an international voluntary youth organisation for all those interested in ponies and riding and is the largest association of young riders in the world. Many of the UK’s top equestrians started in the Pony Club.
