New charge for parking on promenade walkway

New parking charges are on the way for drivers in Douglas.
The promenade walkway will be used as a paid parking zone when spaces on the road are lost during the next phase of a major upgrade later this year.
The charge is among a raft of cost-saving measures agreed this week by the Department of Infrastructure, which has to find ?5 million of budget savings this year.
Charges on the walkway will be the same as in nearby Chester Street car park.
Minister Phil Gawne says it's a reasonable charge to make in the current climate:
