"Reminder to all juniors – your coaching sessions start as from this Saturday 6 September with Mini Tennis Red sessions hourly from 12 noon. Any child aged 5 or over can just turn up for a taster session or contact Ian Watson the club’s registered coach on 496293. All other age groups/ball colours are on the usual days and times.
On Saturday from 12 – 3pm some committee members will be in attendance to show potential members around the facilities. Also the club has been given a large quantity of very good quality, boys tennis kit for ages around 9 – 12. This will be sold for a small donation to club funds with any spare clothing being given to charity. Tennis clothing can be expensive so there could be a few bargains.
Members have until 30 September to apply to the secretary for tickets for the IOMLTA Prize Presentation. Tickets are ?13 and the meal is a hot buffet.
At last work is progressing on the outdoor court re-surfacing which requires dry and warm weather, so keep your fingers crossed for two weeks of an Indian Summer.
Another club junior, Jack Christian (10) has tested his tennis skills in UK competition and been successful. Playing in under 10 competition in Port Sunlight he won his 1st match 4-1, 4-1, lost to Lewis Wilson, a higher rated player 2-4 1-4. Then won 3 matches in the consolation draw with scores of 4-1,4-1; 4-1 and 4-1, 4-0. In total he won 4 of his 5 matches which is a really good start to competing in the UK. His other event was at Poynton where his 1st match was against another Albany member, Roch Mirski with Roch winning 4-2. Jack then won his next 2 matches 4-0 and 4-2. He lost a close match 5-4 to Aiden Yates (green ball 1) but qualified for the qtr.finals where he beat James Hartley(green ball 2) 4-0, Roch Mirski 4-2 and in the final beat Aiden Yates 4-2 to win the overall event. Well done Jack – that’s a really impressive set of results. I would like to hear of any other juniors playing in the UK or abroad."
