IoM Archery Club Report - 31st August

by isleofman.com 3rd September 2014

Weather conditions at Greeba were perfect once again on Sunday as the archers assembled to shoot a Metric round according to age, as part of the Club’s Handicap League. The use of handicap tables allows all ages and disciplines to compete on an equal footing. Overnight rain had left the ground soggy underfoot and those with inadequate footwear suffered as a consequence.

Fresh from recording a personal best score at the York Double WA 1440, Dave Moore was in fine form leading the scratch Gents Compound division from start to finish. Dave posted his first ever Master Bowman equivalent score which added 22 points to his pb and was the highest scratch score of the day.

Three other archers also managed to take advantage of the conditions to record new personal best scores; Karen Lott added 23 points to her pb for the Short Metric, Josh Trafford added 59 points to his pb for the Metric II and James Hill added 26 points to his pb for the Short Metric IV.

Both Joy Gough and Barbara Harris were disappointed with their performance. Joy, who was somewhat distracted by the antics of the Juniors’ who turned up in the afternoon, only just managed to get over the 1200 mark and recorded two misses at the shorter distances. Barbara, who had only shot once in the last 5 weeks, struggled with fatigue and a back injury. Harris faded badly in the afternoon, missing four times at the shorter distances to post a well below par score.

Results:- Metric Round: 1. James Hill 1480 (72/573/12/3)pb, =1. Dave Moore 1480 (144/1318/59/19)pb, 3. Josh Trafford 1476 (144/1016/10/4)pb, 4. Karen Lott 1465 (72/551/8/0)pb, 5. Charlotte Harris 1449 (72/612/13/2), 6. Toby Young 1430 (71/563/10/3), 7. Pete Mumford 1423 (144/1261/36/10), 8. Danny Cowin 1417 (138/862/4/4), 9. Joy Gough 1387 (142/1209/32/9), 10. Colin Moore 1378 (72/567/11/2), 11. Rhys Moore 1373 (121/844/11/5), 12. Barbara Harris 1348 (140/964/10/4), 13. Joseph Reaney 1271 (56/288/1/1).

A reminder that next week’s shoot is the Windsor Trophy. This is a three-quarter day round so entrants must arrive in the morning to shoot.
