Former minister critical of Steam Packet's Manannan problems

by isleofman.com 3rd September 2014
A former infrastructure minister is criticising the Steam Packet Company over the weeks of problems with the Manannan fast craft, particularly the cancelled sailings during the Festival of Motorcycling.
South Douglas MHK David Cretney says the lack of a contingency plan - with the MV Arrow sub-chartered out for three months over the summer - took away the opportunity to repair the vessel when engine problems first came to light.
On the cancelled sailings which led to the Manannan being stranded overnight in Liverpool, he says a lack of communication made the situation worse.
Mr Cretney wants evidence of what Steam Packet Chief Executive Mark Woodward termed as "atrocious" behaviour by a small number of passengers - as no arrests were made.
Mr Cretney says the staff on duty were not to blame but management needs to up its game.
Mr Cretney is hoping to set up a meeting with Mr Woodward and would like some passengers on the cancelled sailing from Liverpool to attend as well.
