Equiom team talk VAT importance at Monaco Yacht Show

by isleofman.com 2nd September 2014

Equiom, a leading international yachting services provider will once again be exhibiting at Monaco Yacht Show to showcase their in-house VAT expertise and market-leading services from September 24th to 27th.

“Yacht owners and operators are faced with the ongoing challenge that VAT and regulatory issues vary greatly from one country to another, and not fully understanding the issues and associated risks can be costly in many ways.  Our in-house VAT team is one of the largest within the business and includes ex-customs officers and private practitioners.  All are highly experienced in VAT and Customs formalities including importation of yachts into the EU as well as multi-jurisdictional VAT and yacht registration services.  Maltese leasing structures have also proved to be an attractive proposition for those wishing to use their yacht privately”; states Equiom’s VAT Director, Steve Cain.

VAT Manager, Andrew Wilson continued; “There is also a variety of opinions regarding the flag and the linked perception of VAT status by customs authorities throughout the EU that should be considered.  Choosing an EU Flag over a Non EU flag is no longer a simple decision, and we hope to discuss this and the many other challenges facing the industry in Monaco.”

Joining Steve and Andrew in Monaco will be six colleagues from across the Equiom Group’s offices in the Isle of Man, Malta and Jersey.  The team can be found at the Equiom stand no: QS93 located in the Darse Sud Tent.  On the Saturday, joining the team will be Helen Woods (Head of Tax Services) who will be available to discuss private client tax issues relating to offshore structures.

Equiom has gained global recognition within the yachting industry through the provision of a variety of bespoke yacht ownership structures which ensure VAT and tax efficiency.

Considered the world’s premier yachting event, Monaco Yacht Show regularly attracts wealthy yacht owners and luxury yachting professionals for the four day event.  Over 500 companies and 105 Superyachts are due to exhibit, and with an average attendance of 33,000, 2014 looks set to be the biggest to date.
