For the second year in succession Jack Gilbert has won the Scottish Widows Peel Golf Club junior competition.
The 15-year-old finished on 38 points to win the tournament sponsored by Scottish Widows, part of the Lloyds Banking Group.
At the prize giving the company, which has sponsored the competition since 1998, was represented by Neil Keatings and managing director Juan Clarke.
Mr Clarke said Scottish Widows was pleased to be continuing its association with a club that placed such a strong emphasis on nurturing young talent, an objective which was at the heart of Lloyds Banking Group’s corporate social responsibility programme.
‘For our part,’ he continued, ‘we see encouraging young people to develop their potential as the right thing to do. It’s an approach that has seen us help inspire children to discover the world of books through our sponsorship, now in its seventh year, of the Summer Reading Challenge, and also expand our primary schools’ volunteer reading programme, Book Buddies. And it is why we choose to sponsor this competition, an occasion that, every year, showcases some truly outstanding playing skills among the club’s junior section. The event not only highlights the dedication of the club’s committee to coaching and upholding the game’s time-honoured standards but also the tremendous support these young players receive from their families who are clearly enormously proud of their children’s achievements.
‘I congratulate Jack on his outstanding performance for the second year in a row and offer a sincere “well done” to all the competitors who took part.’
