John Otway concert and “Otway The Movie” screenings presented by JonnoPromotions
(IOM Arts Council & Island of Culture supported events)
With the support of the Isle of Man Arts Council and Island of Culture, JonnoPromotions is delighted to welcome back to the Isle of Man, for his first visit in almost a decade, the man … the myth … the almost legend … "Rock & Roll's greatest failure" John Otway.
John is an English singer-songwriter who has built a sizeable cult audience through extensive touring, a surreal sense of humour and a self-deprecating underdog persona.
With Island-based musicians Martin Rigby (drums) and Martin Jones (bass) as his rhythm section and with Adam Jones and Liam Callow on guitars, John is really looking forward to his return performance! Martin and Martin were both in John’s band when he last visited us in 2005.
Young musicians Tender Rage are the special guest support act. Doors open at 7.30pm and show starts at 8pm. The concert is on Saturday 30th August at Port St Mary Town Hall.
Tickets are ?15 and are on sale online at www.eTickets.im/jp and hard copies are available from Patchwork Cafe, Port St Mary; Thompson Travel in Port Erin and at Peter Norris Music in Douglas.
TT & MGP Marshals, Competitors and team members get a ?5 discount (on the door only).
Celebrating more than four decades in the entertainment industry, John made “Otway The Movie” in 2012 as a celebration of his career and it was screened on his 60th birthday. The movie was given 4 stars by the Guardian and was BAFTA nominated, but as with so many of John’s projects, it did not win any awards.
With further thanks to Isle of Man Arts Council and Island of Culture, there will be two separate screenings of "Otway the Movie", each will be followed by a question and answer session with John Otway. These events are on Saturday 30th at the Kensington Road Youth Arts Centre in Douglas at 2pm and on Sunday 31st at the Trustrums Suite in the Falcons Nest Hotel in Port Erin also at 2pm.
There is a ?5 door charge for the special screenings (admission is free of charge for all gig ticket holders).
