Important notice to ALL mini members and juniors – the weekly coaching sessions for all groups re-starts from Saturday 6 September at 12 noon with the usual four sessions and followed by the usual groups on each day. If you are unsure which group you should attend please contact club coach, Ian Watson by e-mail ianwatsonpts@manx.net or phone 496293 or 627720. Any children from 5 yrs old are interested in starting tennis please contact Ian.

The 2nd stage of the courts re-surfacing has been held up due to bad weather delaying the contractors completing a job in the UK. All being well work will start at the beginning of next week and the weather forecast is better for that week so much needed progress should take place. The nets have been put up on courts 2 and 3 but members are advised that the recently made small drainage holes may cause a few bad bounces!  Facilities Manager, Bryan Sharp, is in regular contact with the contractors and up-dates will be e-mailed to members, put on the website and facebook. The committee and contractors apologise for the delay but the weather cannot be controlled so we must make the best of it. The indoor court is available at ?8 per hour and you can book this on line but pay by chq, or cash in the usual boxes. The club championships has had to be postponed and a new date will be announced shortly.

Congratulations to the club’s C team who have won division 3 in the IOMLTA Mixed league. The IOMLTA Dinner & Prize Presentation will take place at Douglas Golf Club on Friday 10 October. Tickets are ?13 and can be ordered through me. Application forms will be at the club and e-mailed to members.

Two of our juniors have been playing in the UK  in the Oxford Sports – all ages including Mini Tennis.

This was a summer series Grade 4 event and Sasha Thomas(15) lost a very close match against Louis Carteledge 6/7(5) 5/7 in the U16 Boys singles. He was leading 5/4 in the 2nd set but lost the next 3 games. He also played in the consolation event losing in the final to Jo Johannes Meredith 1/4 0/4. Meanwhile sister Kitty (10)  came 3rd in the 10U Girls r/r beating Ruth Tyson 4-1,losing 0-4 despite a lot of deuces. She then played the eventual winner Francesca Davis losing 0-4. In her final match she beat Ellie Harris 4-2.

It’s good to hear of our juniors playing in the UK as it gives match experience which is not easy to gain on the Island. If any other juniors have played in the UK please let me know.

The club has a quantity of used tennis balls for sale which are ideal for dogs/ dog training clubs – cost ?5 for a bag of 20. Ring 861497.
