Weather conditions were perfect for this week’s National Rounds but only two of the seniors were able to capitalize upon it. Colin Moore in the Gents Compound division added a pleasing 38 points to his personal best for the York, while Danny Cowin added a staggering 98 points to his pb for the same round in the Gents Recurve.
Two Juniors also found the conditions to their liking. Jack Tyrer, in addition to shooting a six gold end, added 14 points to his pb for the Junior National round. James Hill, using his new bow for the first time, added 66 points to his previous best for the Short Junior National.

Off Island, Dave, Ethan and Rhys Moore competed at the Double WA1440 event at York, with Dave in the Gent’s Compound Division and his sons in the Gents Recurve division.
Saturday’s weather was poor – windy with a mixture of bright and cloudy intervals. The weather deteriorated after lunch with heavy rain and gusting winds causing problems over the shorter distances. However the younger members of the family coped well with the conditions. Ethan’s score of 141 968 12 2 was his first pb for over a year. Rhys’ score of 121 781 16 4 was a season’s best and a welcome return to form after a shoulder injury and health problems.
Dave Moore suffered over the longer distances and had a miss at 50m which saw him post a below par score of 143 1249 45 11.
Sunday saw a marked improvement in the weather with less wind and brighter, warmer conditions. Ethan again shot over 900 but did not reach the heights of the previous day’s score. Rhys however improved significantly adding 115 points to his previous day’s score to finish with 134 896 13 5. Dave likewise improved to post a new personal best score of 144 1296 60 20. All three will be competing at the Meriden Double 1440 in two weeks’ time.
