Manannans top MPL after opening weekend

by isleofman.com 25th August 2014
The Manannans top the new T20 Manx Premier League after the first two rounds of matches on Sunday.
They first demolished Bugganes by ten wickets and then overcame Glashtyns by three wickets.
Bugganes were dismissed for 55 - Nick Hawke took four wickets and there were two victims each for Kieran Cawte, Ewan Quayle and Sam Riordan.
Dan Hawke then smashed Manannans to victory by hitting 36 from 15 balls. His spectacular innings included three sixes and three fours.
Glashtyns had just squeezed home by one wicket in a tight finish against Fenodyrees.
Chasing 121 for victory they were happily cruising along at 86 for 0 when Mark Walker struck.
He dismissed both Drew Buxton for 34 and Chris Langford for 21.
He then took two more wickets and Akkie van den Berg charged in to clean bowl another pair.
Glashtyns needed four to win from the final over when disaster struck Fenodyrees.
They were hit with six penalty runs for not meeting the required over rate.
These runs gave victory to a much relieved Glashtyns team.
Fenodyrees suffered another defeat at the hands of Bugganes.
The side made 114 for 8, but Luke Lacey led Bugganes to a seven-wicket win in only eleven overs with a dynamic 40 not out.
