Moulai makes his move in 3rd MGP qualifying session

by isleofman.com 21st August 2014

Another dry evening greeted competitors for the third qualifying session for the IMGold Manx Grand Prix although Clerk of the Course Phil Taubman warned the riders that there was a lack of adhesion at the top of Bray Hill, Kate's Cottage and Governor's Dip from the overnight rain.

The session got underway shortly after the scheduled 6.20 start and with Andy Lawson opting to go out on his Junior machine rather than the 750 Suzuki that he'll campaign in the Senior race, Michael Moulai topped the Senior and Junior board on his 600cc Des and Dot Collins backed Kawasaki.

Moulai opened with a 116.675 lap before posting the fastest MGP time of the night with 117.274 on his second lap. Lawson was marginally quicker than the Blenheim man on his opening lap (117.026) which he followed up with a 116.731 while James Neesom continued to demonstrate his good form with 116.016 on his second lap of the night on the 600 Kawasaki. Neesom also topped the SuperTwin board with 110.772 from Gary Gittins (110.504) and 94 F1 TT Race winner Nick Jefferies (108.273).

Mick Jordan was the quickest in the Lightweight class at 105.882 from Dan Hobson (104.035) and Bob Farrington (102.602). Farrington has achieved fame in the MGP paddock for the 'Farringtown:  Road Racing Capital of the Paddock' sign and assorted pets that accompany him to the race meeting.

In the Newcomers A Class, Ireland's Shane Egan (111.634) will know that he faces serious competition in Monday's Race with Malachi Mitchell-Thomas posting a lap of 112.530 while Billy Redmayne (112.416) also reinforced his credentials.

Manx Rider Dean Osborne, recipient of the Olive Bullock sponsorship, topped the board with 106.353 while French rider Lancelot Unissart was the quickest Newcomer C at 97.651mph.

In the only incident in the evening, Jan Koning was reported as OK after coming off at Governors Bridge.
