Beach Buddies organises midweek beach cleaning session

by isleofman.com 20th August 2014
There will be a beach cleaning session by Beach Buddies on Thursday afternoon (August 21st) at Blue Point (clearly signposted on the coast road close to Andreas).

This is an opportunity for those who cannot make weekends to join in a session, perhaps for the first time, as we have had many requests for midweek events in the past.

Blue Point, and the north west coast towards The Ayres is now fully open for beach cleaning, having been delayed by the nesting season for wild seabirds such as plovers and oystercatchers until the beginning of this month.

Beach Buddies will provide all the necessary equipment, including gloves, litter pickers and bin bags - generously sponsored by WDS Ltd, DoI and SITA, and will dispose of the rubbish collected with the Sandy Bairstow trailer.

We may also possibly be using a new 4X4 which we have managed to acquire this week, for which we don't have a sponsor . . . but we are hoping some kind person will come along and help. The last vehicle has now, sadly, ascended to The Great Scrapyard in the Sky after many thousands of miles of invaluable service to Beach Buddies!

Volunteers of all ages are invited, and well behaved dogs are also welcome. All you need is decent walking boots and a desire to help the environment and wildlife.

The session starts at 1.30pm.
