The Claremont hotel is celebrating the conferral of a prestigious international award after winning the ‘Isle of Man’s Leading Hotel 2014’ at the annual World Travel Awards.
The prize will add to the Claremont’s growing list of accolades, which now includes the 4-Star Silver Award from Visit Isle of Man, TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, the Bloomberg International award for Highly Commended Hotel Interior, the Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence, Company of the Year Award 2012 and a rare shortlist award for the same prize in 2013.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. Today, the WTA brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire. The annual programme is renowned as the most prestigious and comprehensive in the travel and tourism industry. In 2013, over 500,000 individual votes were cast by travel professionals and high-end tourism consumers.
The WTA award comes following a series of four multi-million pound refurbishment phases which have seen the central Douglas hotel transformed to a global standard. Each of the Claremont’s 56 rooms was furnished to an average spend of ?50,000, compared to an industry average of ?15,000, while the hotel entrance, foyer, and business lounge facilities underwent a complete structural and stylistic revision to a carefully furnished open space.
Commenting on becoming the Island’s leading hotel, General Manager Ricardo Campos said: “It is an honour to have been recognised in this manner by what is considered one of the global industry’s most prestigious awarding bodies. Indeed, this is accentuated by the fact that the World Travel Awards leading hotel series is informed through public vote by some of the industry’s top travel professionals and luxury tourism consumers. Being recognised in this way as the Island’s leading hotel is certainly the cumulative result of continued private investment, but this award would also not have been conferred without the tireless dedication and unerring professionalism of the hotel team. I would like to congratulate everyone here at the Claremont and also thank everyone who took the time to cast their vote.”
