A 39 year old rider was killed in an accident on the mountain mile during yesterday (Tuesday) evening's MGP practice session.
Stephen McIlvenna from Randalstown in Northern Ireland was an experienced racer who first competed in the Manx Grand Prix in 2005 and who won the 2009 Junior MGP. He also competed in the TT in 2010.
The road was closed for several hours after the practice session while accident investigators examined the scene.
The Manx Motor Cycle Club has expressed its deepest sympathy to Stephen's family and friends.
