Rider dies in practice session

A rider has died following an incident in last night's (Tues) practice session for the Festival of Motorcycling.
39 year old Stephen McIlvenna from Randalstown, Northern Ireland, was killed in an accident on the Mountain Mile during the qualifying session for the Manx Grand Prix.
The Manx Motorcycle Club says Mr McIlvenna was an experienced rider who first competed in the Manx Grand Prix in 2005.
He won the 2009 Junior Manx Grand Prix and also competed in the TT Races in 2010.
The Coroner of Inquests has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.
Police closed the Mountain Road until 11.45pm last night after the practice session had been completed.
The Manx Motor Cycle Club have passed on their deepest sympathy to Stephen's family and friends.
