Bank fraud warning issued by police

by isleofman.com 18th August 2014
Police are warning a telephone bank scam is continuing to target Isle of Man residents.
As in a case reported on Manx Radio over the last couple of days, those responsible are claiming to be bank officials and suggesting there has been unauthorised use of a debit card.
In the recent case, when the lady rang her bank's fraud line, the scammers kept the line open and she was persuaded to make an online transfer from her own account to another.
The transaction was questioned, and stopped, by a security team at Barclays in the Isle of Man.
Officers are urging you to not divulge any private details over the telephone, and be careful when hanging up as the scammers are keeping the lines open to try to catch people out when they call their banks to confirm.
They say it is best to visit your banks in person to check on any calls that you have received.
