Scottish Widows’ picnic puts on pounds

by isleofman.com 18th August 2014

Scottish Widows held a picnic in the park – better known as the garden at its Victoria Road, Douglas headquarters – and raised ?400 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The money was raised after colleagues paid for their Picnic in the Park lunch packs and entered a raffle for which there were numerous appealing prizes.

Managing director Juan Clarke who said: ‘Colleagues are always looking at ways of fundraising, from holding dress-down days to cake bake sales and, with the weather in late July so warm, the picnic proved really popular; it couldn’t have been a better day…and really hot. Everyone welcomed the opportunity to combine spending their lunch break outside with raising money for this worthy cause which will benefit from a whole raft of other events planned for the year.’

The Lloyds Banking Group, of which Scottish Widows is part, is a charity partner of the Alzheimer’s Society for 2013 and 2014. Last year it raised ?2.5 million to help the fight against dementia.
