Hugh Logan Architects marks 10-year anniversary

by isleofman.com 15th August 2014

Clients and associates of Hugh Logan Architects helped the Castletown-based firm mark 10 years in business at a reception at Bradda Glen Restaurant.

To coincide with the anniversary, HLA unveiled a new corporate identity as it enters a new chapter in the business’s development.
Director Hugh Logan, whose prominent projects include Skandia House in Onchan and Callow’s Yard in Castletown, told guests that HLA had taken a new direction, with a company formed late last year and now in operation, introducing ‘new blood and experience’ at board level.

‘It’s a new dawn for HLA, and an exciting one with great potential,’ Hugh said. ‘At the reception, in order to allow everyone to enjoy the lovely afternoon and beautiful location, I tried to avoid thanking individually the incredibly long list of people who have helped us reach where we are today. However, there is one person to whom I did give special thanks – my secretary, Karen Wright, whose hard work and abilities have been invaluable to me over the years.

‘We’ve had to weather the economic downturn since 2008, and came through an extremely difficult period. It was certainly a challenge, but I’m pleased to say that everything is now in place for the company to prosper in the years ahead.

Born in the Scottish Highlands in 1957, Hugh was brought up in North Yorkshire and studied at the Oxford School of Architecture, completing undergraduate and postgraduate studies and passing his final Royal Institute of British Architects exam in 1983.

He moved to the Island with his wife, Linda, and children in 1994, when he joined Davidson Marsh Barua (formerly Davidson Marsh & Co).

Of the many and varied projects HLA has undertaken, Hugh counts the Ellan Veen apartments in College Green, Castletown and an affordable housing scheme at Hampton Farm at the top of New Castletown Road, Douglas, amongst the most rewarding.
