Almost 400 A level students will find out how they've performed in revamped exams tomorrow.

For the first time in over a decade, results rely on final papers rather than modular exams where marks are accrued as they progress. The students also had a difficult year in 2012 when their GCSE results were affected by grade boundary changes.

Paul Craine of the Department of Education and Children has warned there will be a much greater than normal variation in the results, making comparisons with previous years harder.

He's encouraging students to take advantage of the support on offer, adding: 'It’s hoped all students will obtain the grades they need but there are always some who don’t do as well as expected, or do better than expected, and they should seek advice from schools or the Department of Economic Development’s Careers Service.
