Phone scammers target Island account holders

by isleofman.com 11th August 2014
Police in the Island are warning the public to be on their guard over telephone scams - after fraudsters duped a number of local people out of large sums of money.
Officers say there has been a 'significant' number of reports of people being contacted by scammers posing as bank officials in recent weeks.
Plausible stories have persuaded account holders to pass on their account details and passwords - only to find out later that their savings have been plundered.
In several cases, members of the Manx public have thousands of pounds of their savings.
Inspector Derek Flint says a favourite ruse is for the caller to tell the individual a serious problem has occurred in their account - and they must speak to someone else.Clip 1
