A donation of ?500 from Heritage Homes, part of the Dandara group, helped keep the carnival spirit alive in Peel on Sunday (3 August).

The property developer has supported Peel Carnival for the last decade, with its annual contribution going towards the entertainment fund.

Ian Baker, who has been chairman of the organising committee for 11 years, said “The donation helps us bring over various groups and street entertainment every year. Without such sponsorship, the carnival couldn’t exist and Heritage Homes has been helping us out year after year.”
This weekend’s event was opened by English folk band the Houghton Weavers, with entertainment throughout the day from street performers and musicians. This included performances from the PanFire Steel Band, fire-eaters and stilt acrobats.

Mr Baker said “All the acts performed brilliantly. The show they put on was really professional and pulled in a massive crowd.”

The day’s busy schedule also included boat-rides, a sand castle competition and a traditional parade along the promenade, culminating in a fireworks display in the evening.

Heritage Homes’ former planning director Joe McLoughlin said “The carnival really does bring the town to life every year and this was no exception. As a Peel resident myself I’m delighted that Heritage Homes has been part of that yet again.

“We have been active in Peel for over a decade and we feel it’s vitally important to give something back to the local community, in this case by supporting this spectacular family event,” he added.
