Racing legend's bike returns

by isleofman.com 6th August 2014

The ex-works Norton motorcycle that the late Steve Hislop rode to victory in the Senior TT in 1992 is returning to the Isle of Man to join in the parade lap at the Classic TT.

The 1992 Senior race is widely acknowledged by enthusiasts as the greatest race in TT history, with Hislop swapping the lead with Carl Fogarty throughout the six lap race before the Hawick man eventually won just 4.4 seconds ahead of his rival. Fogarty set a new outright lap record that was to stand for the next seven years, while Hislop set the race record.

The parade lap will take place on Monday August 25.

James Hewings, director of the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham where the bike is currently on display, will ride the bike in the parade. He said: 'It will be an incredible honour to ride the bike on the circuit that it is most associated with. We are keen that some of the museum's most valued machines are seen by fans in the appropriate context of live displays rather than just at the museum itself and we are delighted to be associated with the Isle of Man Classic TT event.'
