There were only 8 archers shooting at Greeba on Sunday morning, as quite a few of the regular shooters are on holiday and Bradley Layton was competing off-Island.
The round selected was a Long Metric which is a morning only shoot, the afternoon being given over to a social day for the local Greeba residents. This also gave the junior archers another chance to improve their Summer Metric scores for the postal competition.
Only two compound gents competed, with Dave Moore dominating after taking an early lead and holding this right through the shoot against Colin Moore. Dave finished on 607 and Colin on 506. Danny Cowin was the lone recurve gent posting a score of 354.
The other two seniors shooting this round were the compound ladies, Aalin George and Sarah Rigby. The ladies finished the first dozen on equal scores of 101, but then Aalin eased ahead in the second dozen and held onto this advantage until the end of the morning, finishing with a sore of 668 against Sarah’s score of 640. As promised last week, Kirsten George improved her Summer Metric score by a further three points, recording a score of 693 out of a possible 720.
Junior gents recurve archers Joseph Reaney and James Hill also shot the appropriate round for their ages, with James putting a huge 49 points onto last week’s score finishing on 547. Joseph had to settle with a finishing score of 371 which was below his previous recorded best for his round, but as only the highest score recorded will be submitted at the end of August for the National Postal Competition run by Archery GB, Joseph will have time to increase this score.
The rounds next week will be Nationals. As the records officer is away on holiday, the scores of the last two weeks have not been adjusted on handicap. This will be done when Barbara returns, and the appropriate handicap scores will be recorded for the Handicap League which runs throughout the outdoor season.
Good luck to those archers who are shooting in the British Target Championships next weekend at Lilleshall!
