Knockaloe stamps exceed estimates at auction

by isleofman.com 3rd August 2014
Rare stamps from a Manx World War One internment camp have exceeded expectations at an auction in London.
Four lots of the Knockaloe stamps have been sold. Each went for more than the estimate, reaching nearly ?6000 in total.
The lot included the only unused Knockaloe stamp known to be in private hands, and the single stamp sold for just under ?1500.
Hosted by London auctioneers Stanley Gibbons, it’s believed they were bought privately rather than by a museum.
