July was a hot one!

by isleofman.com 2nd August 2014
July 2014 will be remembered for its high temperatures and abundant sunshine.
There are no surprises in the monthly weather review from the Met Office, which reveals there were 251.6 hours of bright sunshine during the month – that compared to the long term mean of 196.
The sunniest day was July 1, with 14.6 hours, and the mean maximum temperature was 1.6 degrees above normal at 19.7 centigrade.
Amongst the sunshine there was some rain, with 54mm measured at Ronaldsway – just 3mm below average.
There were storms on July 8 and 18, with funnel clouds appearing across central areas. The wettest day was Sunday 27, coinciding with the Southern Agricultural Show.
The warm air over the sea produced more sea fog than normal, and whilst it usually only affects the south and east, most coasts saw fog during the month.
Average wind speed also fell during July, with the strongest gust of 36mph recorded July 4.
