The local children’s hospice, Rebecca House would like to thank everyone that took part in a week of events to mark the UK national children’s hospice week. The week raised over ?4,000 with money still being donated.
Themed Super Heros it was heart-warming that so many people got behind the week and supported Rebecca House. Rebecca House currently looks after 29 children and their families ranging in ages from 6 months to 14 years of age. It costs just over half a million pounds to provide this care each year. This week highlighted the care given to children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. They will often have complex needs requiring round-the-clock care – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The week of events started off with ‘Be a Hero Day’ with lots of schools, nurseries, Doctors’ surgeries and offices taking part. There was an information and fun day at the Strand Shopping Centre with colouring competitions and face painting on the Saturday. The Hospice Chaplin, Reverend Lynda Brady also had her hair cut off in order to raise funds.
The team celebrated Father Day with a specially designed Super Hero Dad limited edition card, there was also a midday walk followed by a trip to the cinema. There was also a quiz with the week wrapping up with lots of people walking the Manx Telecom parish walk dressed as superheros. Over 20 people dressed up as superheros to do the walk raising over ?1,800.
All the staff at Rebecca House thanked everyone for being involved in such a fun week and for their kind donations which raised this amazing amount. Special thanks to the schools, businesses, the Outback and the Strand Shopping Centre. Donations are still very welcome via
