Poignant events to mark Summerland anniversary

by isleofman.com 1st August 2014
A minute's silence will be held and 50 white balloons released in a ceremony on Saturday in honour of those who died in the Summerland fire.

The 41st anniversary event's being organised by Glen Vine resident Tina Brennan who was 19 when she witnessed the tragedy.

Last year Tina raised a substantial petition opposing plans to sell the Summerland site for residential development.

She believes a permanent memorial should be placed there and a new community facility created.

The balloon release at 7.30pm will be followed by a special acoustic gig in Amber bar in Douglas, Songs for Summerland.

Tina says seeing the leisure complex engulfed by fire back in 1973 is still vivid in her memory:Clip 1
