The Big Beat for Hospice

by isleofman.com 31st July 2014

The Big Beat for Hospice was officially launched at Jabberwocky, 20 Duke Street, Douglas last night. A specially commissioned video has been created by local film producer extradonaire Selina Hooper to explain what the event is all about. This amazing video was shown for the first time at the launch event.

The video can be viewed here.

The BBFH and Hospice teams are very grateful to Selina and all the film crew for their work on this video. The team of drummers include Martin Rigby, Andy James, John Cleator, Andy Frankland-Davies, Noah Egelnick, Ben O'Hare, Steve Leach, Jon Peacock and Lee Stevens.

They were all filmed at a special place around the island that had personal significance to them.

The Big Beat For Hospice is a fundraising event which will see a group of local drummers taking part in an endurance drumming challenge, which has never been attempted on the Island before, to raise funds for Hospice Isle of Man.

The event will take place at the Promenade Suite of the Villa Marina from Friday 31 October to Sunday 2 November 2014 and will see the participants play drums, in unison, for over 48 hours. The public are encouraged to attend, to have a go at playing on the drums or simply to enjoy the music. It will be an incredible feat of drumming and fundraising. It is hoped that ?60,000 will be raised over the 48 hour period.

Chief Executive for Hospice Margaret Simpson said: “We are extraordinarily touched that these young men have got together and come up with a new and unusual way of supporting our charity that will be remembered for a very long time.” “This is something that has never been done on the island and we are very grateful for all their hard work for our charity.” “A number of events have already been held on the Island prior to this launch tonight.” “The momentum for the Big Beat in October is drumming along nicely.”

Blue, white and pink SMILE wristbands are also on sale from Hospice, hospice shops, Pulrose post office, The Creek in Peel and Jaks. The beautiful song, SMILE is so synonymous with Katherine Crowe. Click here to hear her singing Smile with the London Metropolitan Orchestra.

These bands are on sale for ?2 minimum donation with all proceeds going to the Big Beat for Hospice.
