The first ever Soap Box Race to be held in Douglas will take place on the evening of Saturday 13th September 2014. The event will see partakers contest their homemade, non-motorised Soap Box vehicles in a downhill race to become the ultimate champion. But it’s not just about speed; prizes will also be awarded for the most creative Soap Box design!

Drivers will need focus, nerve and gravity on their side as they dash from Upper Church Street down to Barrack Street. Bar George, The Courthouse, The Rover’s Return pub and The Outback are key points along the route, providing great viewing points for members of the public to watch and support their favourite vehicle!

The event is a welcome addition to the entertainment programme for Rally Isle of Man, powered by Microgaming, which takes place 11-13th September. With the organisers of the rally keen to get involved, The Soap Box Race will close a thrilling long-weekend of non-stop entertainment.

The event is being organised by local fireman Elliott Moore, who realised that an event of this kind was lacking on the island’s capital. Organiser Elliott Moore comments: “My girlfriend and I discussed organising an event locally and we eventually came up with the idea of a Soap Box Race. It’s a great event because so many people can get involved, from the design and creation of the vehicle, to racing it and of course spectating too. I’m delighted that with Microgaming’s support and with 3FM on board as a media partner, we are able to bring this event to life!”

Keen to get involved in this adrenaline-fuelled event, Microgaming has stepped in as sponsor. The race will host a total of 50 people – 30 private and 20 corporate teams. Entry fees for the race are ?50 for private teams and ?100 for corporate teams, where companies can go all-out with branding their vehicle. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Isle of Man Hyperbaric Chamber.
