It was another good day for Team Isle of Man yesterday with Grace Harrison qualifying for the gymnastics final and the girls team finishing 10th, another national record for the mens relay team in the pool, Cristen Callow winning her first round match in the Badminston and Elliot Baxter finishing 17th in the Mountain Bike X country.
In the gymnastics the girls team began their second day of competition and the team of Nicole Burns, Tara Donnelly, Grace Harrison and Kaitlin Kneen performed fantastically well to finish 10th just over a mark behind Northern Island and ahead of India and New Zealand amongst others. This was a fantastic performance for the first female gymnasts to compete for the island at the Commonwealth Games. Individually they also performed brilliantly and Grace qualified for the individual competition. Tara just missed out but is first reserve should one of the other finalists pull out through injury beforehand.
The men performed well in their team competition and individually after a shaky start on the first day and finished 11th. Alex Hedges is first reserve for the individual competition.
In the pool the men’s relay team of Grant Halsall, Alex Bregazzi, Guy Davies and Tom Bielich set a new national record in the 100m medley relay.
Cristen Marritt won her singles match in the Badminton against her opponent from Mauritius. Kim Clague fought back from a set down in her match but lost the decider. Ben Li lost his singles match and also lost the mixed doubles match with Cristen.
In a tough Mountain Bike X Country event where only 18 of the 35 starters finished Elliot Baxter rode tremendously well to finish 17th
Neil Parsons and Wilf Walton were placed 14th and 16th in the Olympic and Gemma Kermode and Rachel Glover were placed 18th and 20th in the 3 position 50m rifle.
Today sees high jumper Reagan Dee in action in the qualification heats at Hampden Park.
Grace Harrison goes in the Gymnastics individual event with the two other reserves competing if another athlete withdraws prior to the competition at the Hydro.
Badminton continues with Cristen Marritt in her second round singles match against the number 8 seed from New Zealand.
